Interested in joining the NPCG?
All National Park residents, both renters and homeowners, are welcome to volunteer with us!
What’s involved
Volunteers will help with maintaining the garden. This would involve some weeding, watering, planting, and harvesting. Commitment time varies but is minimal. The garden is being designed to minimize maintenance activities like weeding and watering by using various techniques like companion planting, olla watering, and other techniques to keep unwanted plants to a minimum.
Planning and planting the plots are probably the most time consuming activities. Planning a plot does not happen at the garden. It is a remote activity that involves pairing various plants together, by matching their needs (e.g., shallow roots vs deep roots) and benefits together (e.g., nasturtiums deter certain insects while attracting others). Planting is the second most time consuming activity since it involves planting everything according to the plot map created during the planning phase.
As the NPCG grows there will be other opportunities to contribute. Please feel free to contact the NPCG with ideas for the garden.
